National Night Out Against Crime
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. While nationally the event is held in August, the Lake Mills Police Department hosts the event on the 3rd Tuesday of each June, to coincide with Town and County Days.
Citizen Police Academy
In 2020 Lake Mills Police held their first Citizens Academy. The class is 10 weeks long and has 11 different dates of training. Topics include K9, Taser, Defense and Arrest Tactics, Pursuits and Traffic Stops, OWI and Drugged Driving, Criminal Investigations, Active Shooter, TASER and much more! Our goal is to educate citizens on what it takes to be a police officer, why we do things the way we do them, and how technology is changing the landscape of police work.
Youth Citizen’s Police Academy
In the summer of 2022, we held our first Youth Citizen’s Police Academy. The class was attended by students in grades 7 through 9. The students were able to learn about policing in Lake Mills, including K9 demonstrations, crime scene processing, arrest procedures and many other topics. We also spent time with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Witches Night Out
A fun-filled community event sponsored by Legendary Lake Mills. Officer Johnson has been making her Witches Brew (Homemade Root beer) for the past two years. This year we incorporated the Youth CPA and had them helping out while we served hundreds of ghouls and goblins.
