|
Week of May 26 - May 29
|
Tuesday - Up, Down, Stop Go
Can you trick a play partner at home? Use those listening skills!
|
|
Wednesday - Rock, Paper, Scissors, Stretch
Get your rock, paper, scissors, ready to rock!
|
- The goal of the game is to stay balanced without falling over. Try to stay balanced longer than your partner!
- Start out by facing your partner. Play a game of Rock Paper Scissors.
- Each time you win a game of Rock Paper Scissors stay where you are - you don't need to move your feet!
- Each time you lose a game of Rock Paper Scissors stretch out by one foot length.
- One way to do this is to simply take a step back with your back foot, keeping your front foot in the same spot. Each time you lose a game, your back foot goes further back and your front foot stays in the same place!
- Keep playing Rock Paper Scissors and stretching out after each round! The game goes until someone falls over, holds onto something for balance or can't stretch any further.
|
Thursday - 4 Corners
Try to stay in the game for as long as possible!
|
|
Friday - Beans on Toast
Whoa! Did you know that there are other coaches across the country? Here are a few Playworkers from Minnesota that are ready to teach us some Beans on Toast! Click the picture to open the link!

Week of May 18 - May 22
|
Monday - Chi Master with Coach Courtney
Play a round of Chi Master at home!
|
|
Tuesday - Play Annie I Over!
Two teams, evenly divided, stand on opposite sides of a structure (a building, playground structure, or fence that you can throw the ball over) with one team holding the ball.
|
- Divide the group into two teams.
- Use Rock Paper Scissors to decide which team throws first.
- Each team stands on opposite sides of a structure.
- The Throwing Team yells "ANNIE I OVER!" as a player throws the ball over the structure to the team on the other side.
- If a player on the Catching Team catches the ball before it hits the ground, the Catching Team runs around the structure to tag the other team's players or hit them with the ball.
- If no player on the Catching Team catches the ball before it hits the ground, it is their turn to yell "ANNIE I OVER!" and throw the ball back to the other team.
- The Throwing Team needs to be prepared to catch a ball coming back over the structure, or to run around the structure safely to the other side if the other team attacks.
- You can play over a playhouse, garage, fence, or any other structure that you can safely throw a ball over.
- If no structure is available, set up a large rectangle and play around it! Use your imagination to throw the ball high over your invisible castle!
|
Wednesday - Virtual Battleship
Connect with a friend virtually by challenging them to a match of battleship! When I play with my friends on video chat, I make up names for the ships that sink. For example: the OH NOOOO! Not the USS Pancake!

Thursday - Bubbles with Coach Danny!
Did you know that there are other Coaches like me in Wisconsin? This is my friend Coach Danny! He rocks! How many hits in a row can you get?
|
|
Friday - Try a Game of Blizzard
Stand with your group in a circle in the middle of your open space. Take the piece of paper and rip off or cut with scissors a bunch of small rectangles (about 2" wide by .5" tall). These will be the snowflakes.
|
- For the first round, choose someone to hold one of the snowflakes (paper rectangles). When everyone's ready, throw the snowflake as high as you can in the air.
- As the snowflake floats down, work together with your team to catch it before it hits the ground.
- If you're able to catch it before it hits the ground, you move up to the next round by shouting together "Just One More" and adding another snowflake.
- On the second round, you must catch BOTH snowflakes to move up. On the third round, you must catch ALL three to move up. The fourth you must catch ALL four... and so on.
- If at any time you throw the snowflakes into the air and you are unable to catch ALL the snowflakes, try that round again.
- Keep playing and get creative with how you work together to catch them all!
- Try dropping them all from a higher spot (example: from the top of the stairs) for everyone below you to catch.
