Marketing is a major part of business and today’s consumers are different than ever before. In this course, you will learn about current trends in various aspects of marketing to include product design, pricing, promotion, distribution, advertising, sales, slogans, and logos. A look at specific industries, such as fashion, sports and international marketing, is included. Also, various marketing careers and educational tracks are explored. Marketing is a core course for many college majors!
Course Content/Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain how marketing benefits all businesses
- Describe current trends that affect the marketing mix
- Describe the factors that influence a consumer’s decision to buy
- Define marketing mix
- Identify the elements of the promotional mix and the factors that influence the promotional mix of a product/service
- Contrast different types of promotional campaigns
- Create a market research survey
- Perform market research
- Analyze the various factors in pricing for a product/service
- Identify the steps of the selling process
- Develop a distribution plan for a product/service
- Set objectives, determine a budget and develop an advertising theme
- Describe and pitch a marketing plan
- Identify and research the various marketing career opportunities

Student Expectations
You are expected to:
- Bring something to take notes on (i.e. notebook, iPad, laptop), folder, and writing utensil.
Do not ask me to borrow supplies. You are responsible to be prepared just as you would have to be in the workforce.
- Turn in assignment the day it is due.
You will be allowed one time during the semester to turn in a late assignment (called an “oops” pass). After that, you will be deducted 10% from your grade on that assignment for each day that it is late. You are expected to check make-up assignment basket the day you return to school after an absence.
You are responsible for turning work in on time just as you would be required to provide assignments on the job by set deadlines.
- Respect other students’ materials and ideas at all times.
- Only use cell phone for school-related, directed activities and/or during approved break times.
- Attend class and be on time. School tardy policies will apply.
Instructor Expectations
Mrs. Iverson is expected to:
- Return assignments and test grades promptly.
- Be available after school (with advance notice) to provide additional assistance.
- Check understanding of students before proceeding with lessons.
- Treat all students fairly and with the utmost respect.
Grading
Grades are based on a point system. The total points that you earn are divided by the total points possible and weighted according to the breakdown below. If you ever have questions about your grade, please see Mrs. Iverson right away. Check online grading weekly! Always do your best work. Do not ask Mrs. Iverson for extra credit at the end of the semester because you don’t like your grade.
Your final grade will be determined as follows:
Daily Work/Individual Projects 45%
Group Projects 25%
Exams 20%
Participation/Behavior 10%
The following scale will be used:
A = 100-92% C = 77-72%
A- = 91-90% C- = 71-70%
B+ = 89-88% D+ = 69-68%
B = 87-82% D = 67-62%
B- = 81-80% D- = 61-60%
C+ = 79-78% F = 59% or below
Students are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their own work.
