Learning to manage money well comes with study and practice. This course will help you set solid goals regarding money, understand your needs and wants, and create a financial plan. Students will learn about financial options and their responsibilities when it comes to money management. Topics covered include budgeting, saving, investing, using credit wisely and overall money management. A must class for all students!

Course Content/Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Apply reliable information and systematic decision-making when buying goods and services
- Manage money effectively by developing financial goals and budgets
- Evaluate savings and investment options and implement a diversified investing strategy that is compatible with personal goals
- Examine factors that affect incurring debt, cost of credit and legal aspects of credit in order to remain both creditworthy and financially secure
- Explain the features and roles of insurance when making choices available to consumers for protection against risk and financial loss
- Evaluate how career and education choices, skills and economic conditions affect income
- Identify factors that affect personal financial decisions
- Explain the benefits of keeping financial records and documents
- Know how to build and protect your credit rating
- Identify types of financial services
- Know how to protect yourself from identify theft

Student Expectations
You are expected to:
Bring a calculator every day to class!
- Turn in assignment the day it is due.
You will be allowed one time during the semester to turn in a late assignment (called an “oops” pass), which means you still have to turn it in, but you will receive points earned with no deductions. Otherwise, you will be deducted 10% from your grade on that assignment for each day that it is late. You are expected to check make-up assignment basket the day you return to school after an absence.
- Respect other students’ materials and ideas at all times.
- Only use cell phone for school-related, directed activities and/or during approved break times.
- Attend class and be on time. School tardy policies will apply.
Instructor Expectations
Mrs. Iverson is expected to:
- Return assignments and test grades promptly.
- Be available after school (with advance notice) to provide additional assistance.
- Check understanding of students before proceeding with lessons.
- Treat all students fairly and with the utmost respect.
Grading
Grades are based on a point system. The total points that you earn are divided by the total points possible and weighted according to the breakdown below. If you ever have questions about your grade, please see Mrs. Iverson right away. Check online grading weekly! Always do your best work. Do not ask Mrs. Iverson for extra credit at the end of the semester because you don’t like your grade.
Your final grade will be determined as follows:
Daily Work/Individual Projects 40%
Group Projects 25%
Exams 25%
Participation/Behavior 10%
The following scale will be used:
A = 100-92% C = 77-72%
A- = 91-90% C- = 71-70%
B+ = 89-88% D+ = 69-68%
B = 87-82% D = 67-62%
B- = 81-80% D- = 61-60%
C+ = 79-78% F = 59% or below
Students are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their own work.
